Bells and Bows

Again, I have no idea of the year...this very Christmas and simple stocking is always a favorite of mine. Sometimes I think I would like to put gold stars on top of the trees!

Oh How I Wish.........

I wish I had made a point over the years to record the years of the stocking creations, where the patterns were, and the state of the world at the time.....This stocking is of a victorian design. One of the most unusual in the collection. I don't ever picture it hanging on a mantle.

The First.....I Think

I was the first Child and this is my first stocking. So by process of deduction...I think this may have been the first stocking my mother knit. It is a classic 1950's style and the reds are a strong pinky red of the era. The beads are wooden and it has some shiny sequins.
I have always cherished it. Later you will see the one she knit for my daughter, Elizabeth. It is the same style but the colors are more up to date.

TRIP TO VERMONT..........

Several years ago Ruth and I make a trip to a Ski Resort in Vermont...the White Mountains. While we were there, we spent a day traveling from hamlet to little town searching for Yarn/Knitting Shops. In the outskirts of Brattleboro we found a delightful shop. The stocking you see on the left is from that shop visit. It is by Elegant Heirlooms and has many types and textures of yarn. The more difficult the pattern and intricate the design, the more Mom loves to knit them......

FIRST STOCKING

This is actually the first post and not really the first Stocking. The first stocking is the one my Mother made for me when I was born. You will recognize it immediately when I finally post it to this site because it is totally typical of the era when I was born.

I am doing this because for many many years, my Mother, Ruth has knitted us several stockings every year that have amassed an incredible body of work! You will see the variety of color, style, and design. Enjoy.......
